Chicago’s Studebaker Theater Coproducing Manual Cinema’s “Frankenstein” and “Christmas Carol” this Year

Chicago’s historic Fine Arts Building and Studebaker Theater are proud to announce their co-production of two acclaimed Manual Cinema productions this year: Frankenstein runs for three performances only at the Studebaker Theater, October 25–27, 2024; and Manual Cinema’s Christmas Carol, the beloved, one-of-a-kind rendition of Charles Dickens’ classic story, returns for the holiday season at the Studebaker Theater, December 13–29, 2024. These productions mark the first time the Fine Arts Building and Studebaker Theater are co-producing theatrical works with another organization.

Music Institute Fall Fundraiser Concert Supports Scholarships and Financial Aid, Sunday, Nov. 3 at Nichols Concert Hall

The Music Institute of Chicago presents a joyful afternoon of performances by faculty and students, culminating in a community sing on Sunday, November 3 at 3 p.m. at Nichols Concert Hall, 1490 Chicago Avenue, Evanston. This concert supports the nearly $500,000 in scholarships and financial aid the Music Institute provides each year.

Millennium Park Foundation and City of Chicago Announce New Public Art Coming to Millennium Park for 20th Anniversary Season

Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson, the Chicago Department of Cultural Affairs and Special Events (DCASE) and the Millennium Park Foundation announced today new temporary public art installations coming to Millennium Park during its milestone 20th Anniversary season, including physical works by one of the world’s most recognized sculptors, Franz West, and innovative augmented reality works by Chicago-based artists Claire Ashley, Faheem Majeed, Yvette Mayorga and Carlos Rolón. The augmented reality works are on view throughout Millennium Park now through November 2025. West’s sculptures will be on view in the South Boeing Gallery starting the week of July 22nd through November 2025.

Shedd Aquarium Beluga Whale, NAYA, Gives Birth

Chicago’s Shedd Aquarium welcomed a new resident to the Abbott Oceanarium on Wednesday evening: a beluga whale calf born to 35-year-old mother, Naya (NI-yah). Earlier that day, the animal care team recognized signs that Naya was going into labor and closed the Secluded Bay habitat to guests. Hours later, shortly after 6 p.m., the calf was born and took its first breath of air at the water’s surface shortly after – a crucial first step for belugas.

Lyric’s annual free concert, Sunday in the Park with Lyric, takes place on August 25, 2024, at 7:00 p.m. at the Jay Pritzker Pavilion in Millennium Park and promises an opportunity to embrace the end of summer with a fun-filled night of music. The event will be hosted by Lyric’s Chief Artistic Administration Officer Matthew Ozawa, NBC5’s Arts and Entertainment Reporter LeeAnn Trotter, and the City of Chicago’s Department of Cultural Affairs and Special Events Commissioner Clinée Hedspeth.

Court Theatre to Present the Return of An Iliad June 4 – 29

The Court Theatre – under the leadership of Executive Director Angel Ysaguirre – is proud to announce a special addition to the 2024/25 season: Lisa Peterson and Denis O’Hare’s An Iliad, based on Homer’s epic poem of the same name. This production is a remount of the critically acclaimed production directed by Senior Artistic Consultant Charles Newell, starring Timothy Edward Kane. An Iliad will run Wednesday, June 4 – Sunday, June 29, 2025, at Court Theatre, 5535 S. Ellis Ave.
