Andersonville’s Community Garden Project, Aville Grows, Hosts Free Outdoor Screening of ‘James and the Giant Peach’ on Tuesday, August 12, 2025
Chicago’s Andersonville Chamber of Commerce (ACC) and the Andersonville Sustainable Community Alliance (ASCA) plan to host a free community screening of Disney’s family-friendly film James and the Giant Peach on Tuesday, August 12, 2025, from 7 – 10 pm at 5339 N. Ashland Ave. in Chicago.
Attendance is free with a suggested $5 donation for drinks and snacks to support Aville Grows, Andersonville’s new community garden project slated to break ground later this summer. Aville Grows is a community initiative to transform two vacant lots at 5339 and 5347 N. Ashland Ave. into Andersonville’s first community garden, inviting neighbors to grow food, share knowledge and build a more sustainable, connected community. With workshops, events and volunteer days, there’s a place for everyone – from first-time gardeners to seasoned growers.
Located in the heart of the neighborhood, this shared green space will feature more than 50 organic gardening beds, pollinator-friendly landscaping and communal gathering spaces for workshops and other events. Aville Grows Garden Steward Nandita Goswami notes, “Whether you’re planting your first tomato seed or sharing decades of gardening wisdom, there’s a place for you here. Help us break ground on this exciting community initiative by donating, becoming a sponsorship partner or joining us for a volunteer work day. We hope Aville Grows becomes a pilot model for other Chicago neighborhoods to emulate.” To donate or get additional information about Aville Grows, please see andersonville.org/asca/aville-grows/.
