Adler Planetarium Announces “Other Worlds” – An Interactive Look at Planets

Adler Planetarium announces the opening of Other Worlds, a new permanent exhibition that explores planetary bodies throughout the universe from the familiar to the extreme including gas giants, ice giants, super Earths, rocky worlds and more. Travel beyond our solar system to learn about the more than 5,000 discovered exoplanets that orbit around other stars and get a new perspective on the planets closest to ours. Other Worlds encompasses around 6,500 feet of exhibit space and replaces the iconic Our Solar System gallery, which first opened to the public in 2012.

Interactive elements of Other Worlds allow guests to literally feel like they are standing on another world in the Walking on Other Worlds immersive visualization experience. Guests can create and manipulate different types of planetary systems in the Stellar Playground—a 65’’ touchable interactive from Clark Planetarium, climb on a gas giant planet embedded in exhibition floor, and discover some of the new technology used to learn about planets near and far with telescope activities, models of the Mars Exploration Rovers, Mars Ingenuity helicopter and Adler’s own Aquarius Project sled, which shows how young scientists discovered meteorites in Lake Michigan.

Exploring the incredible range of Other Worlds will help guests better understand our home planet Earth. Guests will learn how planets have evolved in the human imagination, how people have learned about planets, and uniquely express their own thoughts about how humanity should explore other planets on the exhibition Why Wall. Other Worlds exhibition is open during all public hours and is included with all Adler admission packages. All tickets must be purchased online, in advance.
