Acclaimed Vocalist Lizz Wright Releases New Music Video For Single “Your Love” from Her Studio Album “Shadow”
Lauded vocalist Lizz Wright encapsulates an illustrious 20-year career as one of the great modern American singers with the studio album, Shadow, on her label Blues & Greens Records, that was released to critical acclaim on April 12, 2024, and is now under consideration for this year’s Grammy award under “Best Alternative Jazz Album”.
On Friday, October 4, Wright will release the official music video for her single “Your Love” featuring acclaimed vocalist/bassist Meshell Ndegeocello and star harpist Brandee Younger.
“Your Love” is a moment to honor family and ancestors with moving references to the faith of Wright’s upbringing and her relationship with nature. The video was recorded at Atlanta, Georgia’s Rock Steady dance club and filmed by Chicago’s Angelo Margentina and produced by Chicago visionary Monica Haslip with wardrobe by Wright’s longtime friend and stylist Agape Pennywell (World of Agape).
Wright used to dance long nights to house music steeped in the clubs and culture of Atlanta in the 1990s. Gathered with friends and couples pulsating to the pocket of Deantoni Parks’ drum and Meshell Ndegeocello’s nuanced bass groove, Wright’s music sings of joy in a celebratory space.
Wright has culled inspiration from her Southern upbringing in Georgia where she was the musical director of a small church in which her father was the pastor. The call and response singing with the church congregation was her first brush with music. Soon she would traverse the Great American Songbook on her path to becoming a beloved international treasure.
At the age of 22, Wright first made a name for herself nationally as a vocalist with a touring concert tribute to Billie Holiday. At 23, she signed with Verve Records for the release of Salt, which topped Billboard’s contemporary jazz charts. She went on to record for Universal Music Group and released the albums Dreaming Wide Awake (2005), The Orchard (2008), and Fellowship (2010). On Concord, Wright released Freedom & Surrender (2016) — featuring the single “Lean In,” which landed on President Obama’s Summer 2016 playlist.
