Auditorium Philms Concert Series Kicks Off Holiday Season with “Love Actually” in Concert for One-Night Only, December 7, 2024
The Auditorium and the Chicago Philharmonic announced the latest installment in its Auditorium Philms Concert Series, a multi-media experience presenting iconic films brought to life with scores performed in concert, with the holiday favorite Love Actually.
The star-studded romantic comedy will play while a full orchestra performs the delightful score by award-winning composer Craig Armstrong with in-sync dialogue and sound effects from the original film. The one night-only presentation takes place Saturday, December 7, 2024, at 7:30 p.m. at The Auditorium (50 E Ida B Wells Drive, Chicago).
“The holiday season at The Auditorium is always a special time of year and we invite everyone to come celebrate with us,” said The Auditorium CEO Rich Regan. “We are looking forward to welcoming the Chicago Philharmonic back to help memorialize the holidays with an evening of Love Actually that is sure to be heartwarming and delightful for lovers of the classic film and newcomers alike.”
The score for Love Actually was composed by Craig Armstrong. Best known for his work with Baz Luhrmann on Romeo + Juliet, Moulin Rouge! And The Great Gatsby, Armstrong is one of the most well-known Scottish film composers working today.
“After the triumph of our U.S. Premiere of Bram Stoker’s Dracula at The Auditorium in November, we are thrilled to return to the historic hall for another classic film score,” added Chicago Philharmonic Executive Director Terell Johnson. “Blending the beautiful score by Craig Armstrong with music by Kelly Clarkson, Joni Mitchell, and more – this is exactly the genre-bending concert that Chicago Philharmonic specializes in.”
An instant box office success upon its release in 2003, Love Actually has become a holiday tradition for many- even reaching the status of cult classic. Set in contemporary London in the weeks before Christmas, Love Actually tells one story which weaves together a spectacular amount of love stories all funny and unique in their own way. The film features an all-star ensemble cast, including Hugh Grant, Liam Neeson, Colin Firth, Laura Linney, Bill Nighy, Martine McCutcheon, Alan Rickman, Emma Thompson, Keira Knightley Rowan Atkinson, and Martin Freeman.
